As founder corporate donors for the Futurestars Charity, OMA Group in Ghana is delighted to have the chance to get hands-on and help with an exciting refurbishment project at one of the Futurestars partner schools in Tema.

The early years block (for children aged between 2 and 6) at Twedaase School in Tema has seen better days; unsafe uneven surfaces, broken masonry, and wiring in place but no power source.

The two-phase refurbishment over two weeks began with contractors – alongside the Futurestars team – laying concrete, fixing masonry, and carrying out all the skilled jobs needed to prepare the site. The children got involved with sweeping and cleaning and classes were moved out to under the trees for the duration.

Thanks to Aqua Africa nine solar panels were fitted and connected to the existing wiring. Donor-supplied ceiling fans mean that the teachers and children will have light for the first time and they will stay cool too.

Once the buildings are ready staff members from every team in OMA Group will be volunteering across Thursday and Friday this week to clean and paint, paint, paint, ready for the handover back to the school next week. We can’t wait to see the results.

OMA GROUP have come together virtually along the West African coast to run/walk/cycle a mile to complete a virtual marathon.

Charities and charitable organisations are struggling more than most during the Covid-19 pandemic and OMA Group employees in West Africa wanted to do something to help. OMA Group agreed to sponsor staff to run/walk or cycle a ‘virtual marathon’ one mile at a time.

A fantastic turnout saw 77 employees from across West Africa as well as South Africa, Australia and the UK took part and ran just under three marathons raising a fantastic £1523.00 for local charities.

Now we’re looking to increase that. Can you help?

All money raised will be split between the nominated organisations each office has selected, who are working with some of the poorest members of our communities in very difficult times. You can donate via Virgin Giving here:

The organisations we are supporting are:

Benin
SAHFA International works to help promote education, eliminate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition, helping rural farmers, facilitating access to drinking water, reduce rural poverty and giving support to orphanages through donations.

Ghana
In Ghana we are donating to two organisations that OMA Ghana know well who support children with disabilities: Samaritan Home, Adidome and the Royal Seed Home

Senegal
les racines de l’espoir is a humanitarian society whose mission is to help vulnerable or sick people including street children

Togo
La Pouponniere is a charity that was close to the heart of OMA’s founder Captain Monty Jones.
La Pouponniere Sainte Claire, Rue Keveto, derrière ESAG NDE, non loin du Séminaire, Tokoin Séminaire – 08 BP 8051, Lomé – Togo. Tel: +228 22 22 53 56 / +228 22 21 39 23
