OMA Ghana and OMA Logistics Ghana Ltd. successfully held its annual SHEQ Week celebration from 13th to 18th October 2025, under the theme “Driving Excellence: Quality at the Heart of OMA.” The week-long program aimed to strengthen staff awareness and commitment to Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) standards across all OMA site offices.

The week began with a breakfast session and opening remarks from the Country Managers. The speeches emphasised the importance of embedding quality at the core of all OMA practices, highlighting how quality underpins excellence in safety, health, and environmental performance.

As part of the SHEQ week activities, the team visited selected customers to engage and share OMA’s SHEQ values. During these visits, the team presented branded souvenirs and reinforced OMA’s commitment to quality service delivery.

On Thursday, 16th October, A sensitisation session on breast cancer awareness was held followed by a breast cancer screening for female staff. The day’s highlight was the strong show of solidarity as staff wore pink to support the global fight against breast cancer — an initiative tagged #OMAGOESPINK.

The week continued with an online SHEQ quiz competition that tested participants’ knowledge of safety, quality, and environmental standards. Winners received recognition and awards for their active participation and performance throughout the week.

The celebration concluded on Saturday 18th October, with a hiking trip to Peduase, aimed at promoting wellness and team bonding. Staff enjoyed a fun, energetic morning of teamwork and relaxation. In conclusion, the 2025 SHEQ Week celebration was a success, fostering a stronger culture of collaboration, awareness, and continuous improvement within OMA.

OMA extends appreciation to all staff for their enthusiastic participation and commitment, and to the SHEQ Team for their efforts in organising a well-rounded and impactful celebration.

The General Management of the Autonomous Port of Lomé informs all users of the imminent start of the second phase of dredging works, covering the port basin and nearly all the quay berths.

These operations aim to restore the initial depths of the berthing areas, strengthen maritime safety, and improve the reception capacity as well as the competitiveness of the port.

Disruptions are to be expected in the planning of ship calls, including the occasional relocation of vessels in operation, either to the anchorage or to another berth, according to a schedule established in consultation with the relevant consignees.

Users are invited to incorporate these provisions into their planning and to maintain close coordination with the port authority throughout the dredging process, which is scheduled to begin this week (8 September 2025), with an estimated phasing over a duration of one week.

The Autonomous Port of Lomé will make every effort to limit the inconveniences and thanks each one for their understanding and cooperation in the success of these strategic works for the entire port community.

Madam Millicent Gbede received the items on behalf on House 2 while Mr Gideon received the items on behalf of House 13.

Reiterating OMA Group commitment to supporting Presec, Group HR, Mr. John Edoh, stated, “We made a promise to the school, and we will fulfil it. We will provide more sporting kits to the school, and we’re excited to see the positive impact it will have on the students’ academic and sporting pursuits.”

Mr. Tetteh also promised to send additional jerseys when the next shipment arrives and to speak to the students about Future Stars.

One would describe this individual as a passionate performer. This is the case of our “Star Employee” of the season: Mr. Tetougnima Komlan NAMESSI. Known as Mr. LEO by his colleagues, he today represents the archive of BEST PRACTICES in SHIPPING of OMA GROUP.

Leo joined the group in 1999 as the then MD’s gardener. From there, he joined the operation team as a trainee and junior officer. His dedication and go-getter spirit propelled him to occupy a higher position within the shipping department.

Currently, Leo is the shipping manager of OMA Togo, a position he has occupied since 2014. He’s self-disciplined and easy-going with all. His loyalty to the company cannot be underestimated. He is the reference point as far as shipping best practices are concerned. He represents one of the success stories of employee development and retention of the OMA Group.

On this day, we turn our lenses to Lome, the capital of Togo where Leo and his team are still doing wonders. The Togo country manager and the HR manager never cease to express their satisfaction of Leo’s performance. We salute Leo and congratulate him for an exemplary career life worth emulating.

Léo a rejoint le groupe en 1999 en tant que jardinier du Directeur Général de l’époque (fondateur) et a ensuite rejoint l’équipe opérationnelle en tant que stagiaire et agent junior. Son dévouement et son esprit volontaire l’ont propulsé à un poste plus élevé au sein du département des opérations maritimes.

Actuellement, Léo est le Directeur Shipping d’OMA Togo, un poste qu’il occupe depuis 2013. Il est autodiscipliné et facile à vivre avec tout le monde et sa loyauté envers l’entreprise ne peut être sous-estimée. Il est la référence en matière de bonnes pratiques des opérations de consignation, il est l’incarnation de la réussite sur le plan du développement personnel, professionnel, et de la fidélisation des employés du groupe OMA.

The celebration commenced on Monday, October 14th, where both OMA Ghana and OMA logistics Country Managers addressed all staff. Their speech emphasized the importance of a strong Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) culture, with particular focus on environmental stewardship.

On Tuesday, October 15th, a roundtable discussion was facilitated by a professional in the shipping and logistics industry. Staff representatives from various departments shared real-life challenges faced in their roles, and how they creatively solved these issues. The forum also touched on how effective problem-solving can enhance customer retention in this highly competitive industry.

Wednesday, October 16th, was marked by a quiz competition, conducted online to test the knowledge of both managers and subordinates regarding HSE principles.

On Thursday, October 17th, the quiz winners were honoured with special awards during a brief ceremony. The HR presented the awards, recognizing the winners’ dedication to understanding and promoting SHEQ principles. This event highlighted the organization’s commitment to rewarding excellence in HSE knowledge.

On Friday, October 18th, OMA logistics Ghana Ltd. and OMA Ghana Ltd. in collaboration with Sonotech conducted breast cancer awareness and screening sessions at Aggrey Road JHS 1 & 2 in Tema. Female staff from various departments assisted with the event. Additionally, OMA Ghana together with OMA Logistics Ghana donated waste bins to both schools as part of its environmental commitment. These donations aimed to encourage proper waste disposal among the students and reduce environmental pollution in the school community.

The celebration ended on Saturday, October 19th, with a clean-up exercise at Accra’s James Town Beach in partnership with The OR Foundation and the Tide Turners Cleanup Team. Over 50 volunteers participated, working together to remove plastic and textile waste from the beach. This initiative aligned with the organization’s environmental objectives and created a tangible positive impact on the local environment.

In conclusion, the SHEQ week celebration was a resounding success, with each day contributing to a deeper understanding of the importance of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality in our daily operations. The focus on the environment this year, under the theme “Green Steps, Green Impact,” encouraged employees to take actionable steps toward environmental responsibility, both personally and professionally.
